Yellow Lantern Cafe | Christmas in Antipolo (Part I)

December 22, 2018

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Yes, folks – my favourite season of the year is here! Christmas is just two days away and of course, the perfect time to try a new restaurant.

This year, I’ve definitely become more adventurous with trying out “new” restaurants, and I’ve come to realise that Antipolo has one of the BEST hidden restaurants around the Metro.

Yellow Lantern Cafe is my newest discovery (and probably my last for the year 2018). They currently have 2 branches: Antipolo and Marikina. Of course, to no one’s surprise, I chose to go to the Antipolo branch.

I love the look and feel of the restaurant. As you can see, it’s very bright! Upon walking in the restaurant, it gave me such a warm and happy feeling.

I must mention: I arrived at around 12:30pm and I honestly thought the restaurant was still closed because the lights were switched off and there’s no one there. I was a bit surprised. When I asked the lady who greeted us, she said that their peak hours are at around 8pm – 9pm.

I thought it’d be best to be seated in the outdoor area for the view. I had this impression that the view would be amazing – well, it wasn’t THAT amazing, but it wasn’t bad either. Probably better at night?

Setting aside my very slight disappointment with the view, the food was INCREDIBLE! The portions were generous which was a plus! The food was very tasty and the presentation was quite nice.

Worth mentioning too that their service was a bit slow. There were only four people in the restaurant (including me) and the food took forever to come out as if the restaurant was full house.

American BBQ Ribs | Php 589
Buttered Crispy Chicken Fingers | Php 385

My final thoughts…

Overall, I would say the Yellow Lantern experience was pleasant, but a bit of a let down. Perhaps I’ve tried better restaurants in Antipolo such as Yellow Bird and Eggs for Breakfast that I had such high expectations. Nonetheless, I enjoyed dining at Yellow Lantern Cafe. Don’t get me wrong, the food was great! I just felt like the cons outweighed the pros.

If you’re from the Metro, I suggest going to their Marikina branch instead of traveling all the way to Antipolo.
