I have been very fortunate to travel extensively since I was a young girl. My mom and I share the love and eagerness to explore the word, and I’m very lucky she’s been my travel buddy for 25 years now! Together, we’ve visited most of Asia, east and west coast of the United States, South Africa, Russia, Greece, and a lot more. I even lived in Taiwan alone for more than 2 months in total a few years back. If it isn’t obvious yet, I LOVE TO TRAVEL.
“Wanderlust is a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world.”
They say “Traveling is the only thing you buy that makes you richer”, and I couldn’t agree more. There is something about being out of your comfort zone, being away from your norm, that just opens your eyes and heart to a whole new world you didn’t know exist.
Traveling changes the way you relate to the world. Seeing other people live their everyday lives changes the way you view yours. Every country has a unique culture — they live different lives and have different experiences than you do. Your normal is possibly so bazaar for them and vice versa. Traveling gives you the small window to see from their eyes and have a sense of wonder and empathy for other cultures and countries (which we badly need in this world right now). You start to evaluate your own practices and appreciate them more. The best part? You begin to understand that being different is actually a good thing. Exposing yourself to these diversities, even for just a short period of time, you start to look and treat people a little differently — a little better.
Traveling is a humbling experience. As I mentioned, it gets you out of your comfort zone, which is an opportunity to meet with your inner needs, desires, and fears (some you probably didn’t even know you had!). Traveling makes you realize how oblivious you are to so many things, and how much more you need to learn. All your problems and worries mean so little, because you get to know much more impact stories from around the planet. It makes you feel so small while exploring such a big world out there.
Traveling is transformational – it will change you completely. The best part about traveling? It broadens your horizon and awakens your curious mind. How you think and see the world is not going to be the same when you come home. You start to see with a brand new perspective, widened understanding, and a bigger heart. There’s something fascinating about becoming a temporary participant in another culture that becomes a part of you forever.
